Taster sessions in the Garden Studio

Taster Throwing Masterclass

Experience making ceramics using an electric pottery wheel. Suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience.

£60 for 1 hour on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis  (this price includes materials, glazing and firing)

£100 for 2 hours and up to 3 people (this price includes materials, glazing and firing)

£40 for a 1 hour follow up glazing experience (this is optional)

Whistle-stop Taster Throwing

This is a 20 minute session on how to throw a pot. You’ll learn the basics in how to centre and form a simple pot.

£20 one to one  (this price includes all materials)

Making Pots Course (Fully Booked)

Monday evenings on 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th April 2017

From 7pm-8.30pm

In this course you will learn how to make a range of ceramic vessels using several techniques

  • throwing on the potter’s wheel
  • coil pot construction
  • pinch pots
  • slab pots

You will also learn how to attach handles, decorate, turn and glaze your work

This is a 4 week course

The course cost £120 per person and is limited to 3 people per class (this price includes all materials)

Free Pottery Wheel Experiences

Try your hands at throwing a pot on an electric pottery wheel. The experience will last 15-20 minutes in which time you will have made an earthenware bowl from a lump of clay. There are two wheels running at one time so you can do it with friends or family. If you like what you make there is the option of having it fired and glazed for a small cost, otherwise you can take a photo and the clay will then be recycled. Complete beginners welcome!

Suitable for EVERYONE, even the little ones as young as 2 can have a go with a bit of help!

Pottery Mug Day

Saturday 22nd April

12pm- 2.30pm (Buffet lunch from 12-1pm)

There will be an amazing buffet lunch on April 22nd at Midday followed by a pottery class in Steak of the Art’s private dining hall.

I will show you how to customise a pre-thrown mug. It will still be wet clay so you can add clay features and paint your creation with under-glazes. It will then be taken away, fired and glazed ready for collection 2-4 weeks later from STOA.

Free Play with Clay

Sunday 14th May

10pm-4pm (bookable 20 minute slots)

@Tobacco Factory Market, Raleigh Road, Bristol, BS3 1TF 

Free Play with Clay at the Tobacco Factory Market as a part of the SBA Arts Trail weekend.
Have fun experimenting with textures, patterns, letters and stamps whilst making a tile or decorative hearts.
The session will be 20 minutes in which time your child will be taught how to make the most of the tools and understand how ceramics are made.
If you like what your child has created it can be fired and glazed, ready for collection 2-4 weeks later, for £5 per creation.
